Some comments on the folly of "Reaganomics"

I will let the horse's mouth of the much neglected and maligned average American to speak its concise thoughts on the above economic intellectual pastime of the American elite

Quote
"I've watched for decades as the U.S. economy and population dug the hole deeper, seduced by the foolish concept that the road to security and prosperity was somehow paved with consumption, spending, easy credits, horrific profits for corporate interests, and accepting the "Greater Fool" theory of economics that was "Reaganomics".  Now, after these foolish excesses have proven their absurdity and left their trail of tears and woe upon the world, the profiteers and vested interests are again
attempting to sell the concepts and encourage "consumers" to dig even deeper to find the treasures under the sand.

It is long past time that reasonable minds reject all of these absurdities and admit that a system of "consumption" and "consumer economy" sponsored by Wall Street and Reagan Banks is a failed system, a disaster of proportions yet to be fully measured.  If we allow these interests and their paid political proponents to further enslave the population to debts and foolish consumption, we will simply forge longer and stronger chains of bondage to these plantation owners.

There are literally billions of "consumers" out there, in countries other than the U.S., who are in need of things we could make, grow, and sell or barter, but the profits would surely be less than the 400% margins of iPods, or the 2500% margins of pharmaceuticals, and cosmetic face lifts.

But, Americans would need to once again get out of bed early, go to work and actually lift and move, leave the chairs and keyboards behind, and produce something other than digital records, toys, and entertainment bobbles.  Families could once again pay their bills each month, save a bit, and celebrate when the mortgage is paid.  If Bank of America, Apple Inc., and the new Aristocrats and Billionaires no longer can pay themselves bonuses in the "hundreds of millions", the remaining 99% of our population, and the rest of the world, will all be better off and on a path to recovery from the absurd "economics" of the past fifty years."

Here is another one taking a very good swipe at the libertarian icon Ayn Rand:

Quote
"
Ayn Rand - much as I love her books - was a FICTION writer. Data and history is at odds with her ideas, and as a scientist I have to go with the data. The latter shows that government is unavoidable - man's society makes it naturally. The only thing that is different is the NATURE of the resulting government. In most cases, these are tribal or dictatorial governments, for the few and by the few - while the rest lives in misery and fear. In few cases, truly democratic governments have arisen - by the people for the people. So today's dilemma is not "big" vs "small" government, but "dumb"/"plutocrat" government vs "smart"/"democratic". And the latter cannot be achieved without some level of civility and education across the population..."
